The event will address the adoption of a more consistent Information Society Technologies (IST) Research and Technological Development (RTD) approach within the European framework in the eleven project target countries: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine.

Analysis of the improvement of the IST legislative and institutional infrastructure, identification of policy research priorities and methods of implementation and good practices, as well as forms and mechanism of cooperation at regional and international levels will be examined through the presentation and discussion of the final results of the Great-IST project, that is the study ‘IST Research & Development Policies in Eastern Europe - Insights and Recommendations Fostering Innovation’ and the Great-IST position paper.

The Great-IST Final Conference will gather decision and policy makers, representatives of academia, research and industry related to IST from the project target countries and from other European countries. Key speakers will be representatives of the European Commission, of Ministries responsible for IST from the target countries, of IST research and industry from the target countries and other European countries.

The Great-IST Final Conference is co-organised by the Central European Initiative (CEI), as project partner responsible for the event, and the Bulgarian State Agency for Information Technology and Communications on behalf of the CEI Bulgarian Presidency for 2007, in cooperation with the project consortium composed by four other partners: TESEO, Belgium (coordinator), INA - South Eastern Europe Telecommunications & Informatics Research Institute, Greece, SBRA - Slovenian Business and Research Association, and ECPD - European Centre for Peace and Development, Serbia.
